Mongolian Eagle Huntress
A character inspired by the nomadic people of Mongolia, she was the longest-living character in my grad project--a fighting game with resource management. She utilizes a small hunting knife as her main weapon, but supplements her fast combos with the help of her faithful golden eagle. A young girl, she hopes to win a global fighting tournament run by a shady company in order to ensure the survival of her tribe.

I've always been inspired by the cultures of other countries. I did a lot of research into Mongolian lifestyle and traditions when creating this character, and tried to remain loyal to their traditional garbs. I envisioned this girl to be fairly important in her tribe, so despite being in economic poverty, I wanted to give her some lavishness with her outfit by making her bright and colourful.

Izanagi and Izanami - kojiki54%

Izanagi in Japanese creation myth is husband to Izanami. The couple were tasked by the gods to create the islands of Japan, but due to unfortunate circumstances are now at each others necks and form the Yin and Yang. Izanagi in our game wields a spear, referencing the spear Amenonuhoko used in the creation myth itself. Izanami was never implemented into the game. In the myth, she rots in Hell and becomes disfigured. I tried to showcase her twisted nature by stripping her robotic parts bare, and giving her a human skeleton.

For Kojiki54%, we tried going for a modern sci-fi setting. I wanted the characters to retain some more traditional aspects, to make them seem otherwordly/Godlike in an otherwise metropolitan setting.

Crow Brings Daylight

The two protagonists, a young Inuit girl and her sidekick Corvus, designed for an adventure-platformer game inspired by the Inuit legend of the same name. In my recreation, Hiyo journeys across the land and away from her hometown in order to bring daylight to her people. She is helped by Corvus who takes pity in her plight.

I grew up in a very Native American rich part of Canada (British Columbia), and thus have heavy influences from the indigenous peoples (such as the Haida). I designed the two main characters to act as each other's foil and compliment one another--Hiyo, being the small, weak girl, is smaller and more round, whereas Corvus, with her wisdom and strength, is taller and lankier.
Black and White like Piano Keys

The protagonist I created for a storyboard. In the story, the girl deals with her struggles with balancing school and piano lessons, while dealing with her father's disdain towards her.

I wanted to go for a rather plain design, to reflect her astute personality, yet easily self-projectable by others.
